The transformation of three floors (30,000 sq ft) within the former original YMCA building into a gym.

At street level, clients use a large array of cardio equipment on rubber flooring that is designed to look like tanned leather in a space with 14-foot ceilings and beams featuring the original partially restored cornice moldings. The lower level and mezzanine used for weight training is accessed by a rough-hewn wood and steel stairway and has double height ceilings with original brick and steel columns and continuous horizontal mirrors. Existing tall windows flood the space with sunlight during the day and artificial lighting, intended to replicate moonlight, during the evening.

The second floor of the space features a heated Bikram Yoga studio overlooking 23rd Street, as well as men and women’s locker rooms featuring therapeutic steam rooms and an authentic co-ed Russian Bath and other Spa facilities.
