DONNA KARAN NEW YORK STORE, TOKYO

The store is located on the central shopping street of Omotesando.

With the ground floor area being small in comparison to the basement floor it was essential to encourage customers to go downstairs. This was achieved by removing the ground floor slab and building up a new floor, which is, essentially, an extension of the basement floor.

At the entry level the customer is presented with an initial view of the collection displayed on a look wall with clothes hanging on suspended hang bars. The handrail is incorporated into the long shelf for shoes, accessories and knitwear that follows the edge of the platform.

The lighting is soft and diffused throughout the store with dramatic accents. At all the perimeter walls, up-lighting at floor level gives a soft glow to the polished ivory plaster walls.
