The design concept was distilled from an analysis of the Tod’s product and brand: its affirmation of Leather, Luxury and Quality; and an analysis of existing Tod’s stores in terms of customer function and merchandising. The fine craftsmanship and simplicity of a Tod’s handbag or pair of shoes needed to be reflected in meticulous detail and fine finishes of the shop concept.
The layout of space in the store is kept quite simple: taking advantage of the exceptional corner location the front part of the store stands tall but not imposing engaging with the street with full height unobstructed windows. The backdrop of this space is a large leather clad box, which contains areas for display of shoes and handbags in a calmer more intimate shopping environment. Smooth Travertine floors contrast with the rough texture of tall plastered columns from which cantilevered display vitrines in chrome steel and glass display small leather items.
